Gen 48: 15God.. has been my shepherd all my life to this day.

The patriarch Jacob had been a shepherd and had been caring for the safety and welfare of his sheep. This was what he knew best as he had spent his whole life caring for and tending the flock. In his mind, he now relates the caring that he had received from God all through his life. He knew his God and he had a lifelong relationship with Him.

Jacob could remember the times when God had protected him from all the dangers that surrounded him from both men and beasts. He likened it to the same protection he had given to his flock. He had led the flock from green pastures to green pastures. He had led the flock from one water hole to another. He had watched over the flock day and night protecting them from the dangers of the wild. He had that love and compassion of a shepherd over his flock.

Jacob could relate the same feeling and compassion that God had for His faithful children. Jacob had also experienced the grace of God over his life and his children. He had also experienced the protection of God over him and his tribe. This is here the last days of Jacob’s life and now he call out to God saying, ‘May the God.. who has been my shepherd all my life to this day… bless these boys’ Jacob was pronouncing blessing upon his sons in this last days of his life.

Throughout the bible we see that God and Jesus are both referred to as our shepherd who leads and care and protect His people. Jesus is indeed he Good Shepherd who knows and loves us. John also wrote in the gospel of John that Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd who gives us living waters and who leads us to the springs of living waters.

By this John is saying that Jesus has given us the Gospel which is the living waters that would satisfy our thirst for spiritual truth.

When we receive the Gospel and live with it, we will not thirst any more as we will now know the truth of the plan of salvation of Jesus Christ and we will inherit the salvation that he had prepared for us.
