Col 3: 12
Clothe yourselves with compassion and patience.
Here is Paul
writing to instruct believers to put on the virtues of compassion and patience.
These are also the virtues of God and Paul wrote in Eph 5: 1 ‘Be ye therefore followers of God…’
Just a few
verses before that in Paul wrote in Eph 4: 32 ‘And be ye kind to one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath
forgiven you.’ Paul was the one who had received the doctrine of the gospel
from Jesus personally and was therefore able to write these in his letter to
the different Churches.
He also reminded
the Church of what Jesus taught in Luke 6: 36 Be ye therefore merciful as your Father also is merciful. The whole
purpose of the gospel is to transform the believers to be just like Christ and to
live godly lifestyles. This is the sole purpose of the gospel which is to
prepare all believers to be godly and holy so that they may inherit the kingdom
of heaven.
In recent
times, I have also seen many apostles and evangelists emphasizing on the need
to train and equip the believers to walk and live righteously as we see the
last days already upon us. This is indeed an important mission for the Church
which is a place of preparation and training to enable all believers to secure
their salvation.
One apostle
brought out this truth, ‘the church is the body of Christ but not the whole
Church is the bride of Christ’. This means that only those Christians who live righteously
and holy lives are qualified to be the bride of Christ and be taken up to
heaven as the bride during the ‘rapture’ Those who do not qualify will remain
on earth and suffer the consequences of living in sin.
This is
indeed a shocking revelation and must be taught to the Church as the Gospel
truth.
