daily devotions 2nd March 2017

Heb 2: 18Because He himself suffered when he was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.

In this chapter and from verse 9-18 the writer reveals the truth that Jesus truly paved the way for by becoming a man and who went through all the temptations and suffering as any normal man would.

The writer wrote in verse 9; ‘But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.’

The reason that Jesus had to taste death was that He would upon His resurrection defeat death and break the power of Satan over man. Because Jesus died as any man would but He resurrected on the third day thereby defeating death as a man and not God, He broke the curse of death and the power of death so that we who follow Him will also have this power to overcome death.

Vs 14-15 ‘Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.
And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.’

This is the victory that Jesus had won for us that we who are His followers would not fear death as those who do not follow Him fear death. The believers know their destiny for we know that since are are saved in Jesus Christ, we are free from this curse as for us to die is gain. Death is only the door through which we pass from this world to the next where we will inherit eternal life.

In verse 17 ‘Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.’

This means that as we continue to follow Him, He has also prepared us to be like Him a high priest in service to God as we intercede for the body of believers just as Jesus had done.

This is our high calling and we must focus on it all the days of our lives and never to turn to the left or the right.
